Owen Smith - Head Instructor

Owen Smith - Head Instructor

Growing up, Owen played multiple sports including hockey, football, golf, swimming, and baseball. Sports have been an integral part of his life and he thoroughly enjoys helping young children find their passion for sport.

Owen started coaching in 2001 when he was 16 in the North Toronto Hockey Continuing Skills Program and did that for 7 years. While completing his Kinesiology degree, he coached North Toronto AA hockey for three seasons. Following his graduation in 2007, Owen has coached in the CISAA at UCC for 6 years and CDS for 5 years. He is currently the head coach of the CPC U14 team. He returned to the GTHL in 2018 coaching the Goulding Park Rangers for 1 year, and then NT Hockey for 3 years. Following his recent coaching role with NT Hockey, Owen joined the NT Hockey Board of Directors and is responsible for supporting the coaches of the GTHL program.

Owen has been part of Justin Murray Skating since day 1. He was hired as a Sr Instructor for the program's first three seasons. As the program grew, he was promoted to Head Instructor where he now oversees the day-to-day operations. During lessons, he makes sure students are placed in the proper groups, support instructors with programming, and address parental questions. He is often the first face of the program you will see once you arrive at the rink. Owen works very closely with Justin to ensure smooth operation of the program.

Owen's hope is that Justin Murray Skating can help students develop their skating skills while having an enjoyable experience. He looks forward to seeing you and your child at the rink.
